Do you have discounts for students/nonprofits or other special rates?
Yes! We do offer a ~20% discount on all plans which are paid annually in advance, which also makes accounting much simpler. We're a non-profit organisation ourselves, so we're not able to offer free accounts unfortunately.
What if none of these plans fit my budget?
Good news! Ghost is completely free & open source software. You can self host it on your own server, computer or Raspberry Pi to have full control over your environment. We have detailed developer documentation to help get everything installed.
If you want to run a self-hosted install for other reasons, but you don't want to deal with setting up or maintaining Ghost yourself - check out our Ghost(Valet) support plans. We can install Ghost for a $99 flat-fee with a hosting partner, and provide ongoing assistance if needed.
I have questions, how can I find out if Ghost will meet my requirements?
You can test out a free 14 day trial of Ghost(Pro) any time, which is probably the best way to get familiar with the product. If you're looking for some specific help, we've got an entire support site full of Ghost guides and helpful articles. We validate credit cards up front to prevent spammers from abusing our services, but we do not charge cards automatically at the end of the trial.

How exactly are Ghost(Pro) "views" and "staff users" calculated to determine pricing?
Views refer to the number of requests to your site each month. These are tracked much like an analytics 'pageview' - and are incremented with each page or API request. We never disable sites for traffic spikes, so no need to worry about the front page of Reddit or HN. If you exceed your limit consistently on a 3 month rolling average, we'll just let you know that you need to upgrade.
Staff users refers to the total number of team members invited to Ghost Admin whom you collaborate with. For the purposes of billing, we only count users who have logged in at least once in the last 30 days.
Can I easily transition from self-hosted to Ghost(Pro) or vice-versa?
Yes, absolutely. You own your data and you can move between different hosts whenever you like. If you get tired of maintaining your own infrastructure and buy an annual Ghost(Pro) plan, we'll even help you with the transition!
What payment methods do you accept? Bitcoin? Paypal? What about invoices?
We accept all major credit and debit cards such as Visa, Mastercard or American Express. For annual pre-paid accounts on Business or Enterprise plans we also accept bank transfers or Bitcoin, where desired. We do not, under any circumstances, accept Paypal.
How do I cancel my subscription? Delete my account? Can I have a refund?
To cancel your account, log into Ghost.org and change your plan from active to "Cancel" — that's all there is to it! To delete your account or if you need any other help just email us on support@ghost.org.
We do not offer refunds.
Have your prices gone up? Can I restore the old Ghost(Pro) account which I used to have?
We've raised prices a number of times as Ghost and Ghost(Pro) have matured over the years, however we always extend legacy pricing to customers indefinitely — so if you become a customer today you will lock in that price for life and be immune to future changes. This is our way of thanking early adopters who have maintained an active subscription.
Unfortunately we are not able to restore accounts which have expired for more than 30 days. We automatically purge and delete inactive-user data from our systems as much as possible in accordance with the GDPR. So if you had an old account with us once, in most cases you'll need to sign up for a new one and start over.
Can you describe your security and data practices?
We, like you, expect our data to be secure and confidential at all times, and we go to great lengths to ensure that this is always the case. We conduct regular security reviews of our product and infrastructure, and as an open source codebase - of course - we have very public scrutiny of all our practices.
All Ghost(Pro) servers are located in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. We have a publicly available Data Processing Agreement.
The site is staffed 24/7/365 with onsite security and to protect against unauthorized entry. Each site has security cameras that monitor both the facility premises as well as each area of the datacenter internally. There are biometric readers for access as well as at least two factor authentication to gain access to the building. Each facility is unmarked so as not to draw any additional attention from the outside and adheres to strict local government standards.

Average usage based billing for all plans
Our plans are limited by how many readers you have, and how often they visit your publication. We only enforce these limits on a 3 month rolling average, so we'll never make you upgrade plans if you happen to have one big traffic spike or particularly successful month.
No surprise suspensions for exceeding limits
We never suspend sites for exceeding plan limits. If you publish something really successful and suddenly get a big traffic spike, that's exactly when you need your site to stay online. We simply email you to let you know when it's time to upgrade.
